The Beautiful Bride - Week 2, Day 1

His Faith-FULL Word!

IF… “Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 (NIV)

IF...” without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

THEN… I will make time each day to invest in the studying of God’s Word that I might grow in faith and in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).

For years, even while serving in full time ministry, my Bible did not have consistent, daily use! I was in the Bible as I studied to teach, I read a quick devotion that hit my inbox, or I thought about a Scripture as I heard it on Christian radio throughout the day, BUT I did not intentionally read through the Word of God each day.  And, if we were honest, most of us would admit that reading God’s Word every day is a struggle!

Why do so many of us struggle to open the Bible each day? The answer is SIMPLE: Satan knows that God’s Word is where God’s power is found!

It sounds so simple, but in reality, it is not easy. Few of us ever get to the point in our lives that we are so hungry for God’s Word that we can’t wait to open it.  Today, this discipline is harder than ever with all the things that distract us and consume our precious time.  Over the past two decades, the speed of life has increased exponentially with the explosion of personal technology. Information is currently doubling every 12 months but is on track to double every 12 hours.

Here are some technological changes that have impacted us:

  • Dial up Internet in 1995
  • 1st Gen iPod in 2001
  • Wikipedia in 2003
  • Facebook in 2004
  • Twitter in 2006
  • 1st Gen iPhone in 2007
  • App Store in 2008
  • Instagram and Pinerest in 2010
  • Snapchat 2011
  • Periscope 2015

These things are not bad in and of themselves. In fact, many of them are beneficial and useful until they take our focus off of God’s Word.  Is it any wonder that we are living lives that are busy, jam-packed, and exhausting while our hearts yearn for peace, fullness and rest? God offers peace, fullness and rest; Satan offers a counterfeit.  He has designed good things to distract us from what is best!

Have you ever known someone with a strong faith? Did you find yourself attracted to that person? Most of us can think of someone who, despite many hardships, never waivers in his or her faith, and we long for that type of life.  A life that is characterized by faith is a life dedicated to God’s Word.  Faith is okay not having all of the answers because you know that God controls every aspect of your life.  Instead of relying on your own strength, you claim His power and strength.

Start your day with just one chapter of His Word. (Caution: you might want more!) Take your time and journal your thoughts about the verses that you read. Ponder God’s direction for you through His Words.  Guard your time with God! Satan HATES it when you spend your time this way because it makes his job so much harder! Will you commit to reading your Bible each day and choose to please God with your faith?
