The Beautiful Bride - Week 2, Day 5

My Father and My Groom

IF…  “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15 (NLT)

THEN… through communion with God in prayer and His Word, I will live in accordance with the Spirit and have my mind set on what the Spirit desires.  I will enjoy life and peace as a daughter of the King. Romans 8:5-6

This week we have concentrated on the “BIG GIFTS” that are given to every Christian: God’s Word and Prayer. These gifts keep our focus on our groom and because of our groom, we can approach God the Father and talk to him like He is our Daddy. So, Jesus, God’s Son is our groom, and because of His death on the cross, we can call God, “Daddy.”

BIG THOUGHT: What are the two most influential roles that men play in a woman's life? Father and Husband!

Some of us have great relationships with these two men, and some of us don’t! Regardless of the relationships that we have had with our earthly men, God fills both roles perfectly! He knows every need that we have and HE MEETS THEM!!!  So, in each of his roles, as Groom and Father, what does HE want or desire from us?

Jesus the Groom: Now whether you are married or not, think about what your dream wedding might be like.  Think about the man at the other end of the aisle.  This Son of the King has given everything He has to marry you.  The enemy had captured you, but He fought valiantly against the enemy to win your freedom, sacrificing His life for yours.  Now he stands at the end of the aisle waiting for you to join Him as His bride.  Your eyes meet and your heart skips a beat.  Everything that you ever hoped for stands in front of you.  He is your happily ever after. He is your LIFE.

God the Father: Think back to when you were a little girl. For some, this memory is sweet and for others, it is painful. Regardless of your position, dream with me for a moment about the ideal father. Now picture God the Father as your daddy. As you snuggle into his lap, His hands are strong and you know that He cares about you more than anything else. He is huge. He has power. He has wealth. He loves you! Think of the things that he wants from you and the things that you need from Him.

His Needs: (as Father or Groom)

  • He needs your adoration.
  • He needs obedience and respect.
  • He needs your attention.
  • He needs you to laugh with Him.
  • He wants to provide for you.
  • He needs you to trust him.
  • He wants to surprise you.
  • He wants you to notice.
  • He delights in you.
  • He loves to protect you.

 Your Needs:

  • You need love.
  • You need to know you are special
  • You need someone to talk to
  • You need to relax in His presence.
  • You need His provision
  • You need the security that comes from trusting Him.
  • You love surprises
  • You need to see what He sees.
  • You need protection

In God’s perfect design, He takes care of every need that we have, and He longs for us to be in relationship with Him.  He is sovereign over everything. We can’t control the orbit of the earth, the weather outside or many of our life circumstances, but we do have complete control over our level of commitment toward God.  When we’re all in, watch out…He will bless us in ways that we never imagined!
