The Beautiful Bride - Week 2, Day 2

Prosperity and Success

IF… God commanded Joshua, “Keep this book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8 (NIV)

THEN… I will stop looking for prosperity and success where the world looks for it and will instead meditate on the truth of God’s Word so that I may be obedient to my Lord and enjoy real success.

I must confess that I have had a secret crush on Joshua for years! I think he might be the manliest man in the Bible – hands down in the Old Testament.  So why am I so attracted to this man that I have never met?  I think it is because of the strength that his character projects. The Bible portrays him as a man that was…

  • Humble: He was the assistant of Moses. Exodus 24:13
  • Courageous: He was one of the two spies that said that God was big enough to provide victory over Canaan. Numbers 13-14
  • Obedient: He led the Israelites in a march around the city of Jericho because God said to do it! Joshua 6
  • Bold: He called the Israelites to choose to follow God rather than the gods of other nations.  Joshua 24:15
  • Godly: He led his family with God’s direction. Joshua 24:15

How did Joshua know to live his life this way?  How did he develop character that would stand strong in the midst of adversity?  In Joshua 1:8 the Lord told him that he would be prosperous and successful IF he meditated on God’s Word.  It is important for all of us to have God’s Word in our mouth and on our mind at all times!  Why? Because when we know God’s Words, we can obey them, and we can readily share them with others.

God does not promise worldly blessing, but instead He promises that when we focus on what He wants and allow our desires to be so closely knit to His, then He will guide our paths toward real success.  Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” God never promises to provide light for our eyes to see everything.  He promises only to light our feet and our path.  Notice that it is his Word that lights our path!

As women, we long for security. Usually this means we want to know how things will work out.  As you get into God’s Word, you will become more confident that He is trustworthy and faithful and more than able to handle your future. You will learn to walk by faith and not by sight as you meditate on His Word. Then He can guide you toward the prosperity and rich blessings that he wants to give you. Let the Words of your groom ring in your ears! Trust Him with your life; He loves you!
